For the first time since the 2010-2011 season, Lake Arrowhead is full.

After a record-breaking amount of storms and rainfall over the last few months, this comes as no surprise.

Since January, Lake Arrowhead experienced 21” in total rainfall – resulting in an 9.6’ rise in lake level. Of that, 5.5’ occurred during the first two weeks of February.

So what does this mean for Dock Owners?

A sudden and significant rise in lake levels can have undesirable consequences for dock owners if they don’t move up their docks in a timely manner.  Since January, the crew at Kiwi Docks has been working around the clock in freezing temperatures, frigid waters, and hazardous conditions moving over 400 docks thus far.

Those customers who were on our Dock Watch Program were the first  in line to be moved up, then we were able to move onto the call ins.  For most of our customers, we were able to ensure that their docks and boats weathered the storm unscathed. However, those not on our Dock Watch or who did not take proper precautions experienced broken docks, sunken boats, damaged equipment, and more.

Moving a dock up may sound easy but for those not aware of how the process works; it takes special equipment, heavy lifting, and teamwork.  Basically, it involves the crew getting into the water to hook up the equipment used to pull up the gangplank and stakes from the beach. Once properly removed and free from the beach (or stair extension),  the dock needs to be moved up and reconnected to the pier. Certain areas of the lake were more challenging than others and a diver was needed to be brought in to swim down and disconnect the docks.

If your aren’t on Dock Watch and you still haven’t moved up your dock, it needs to be addressed immediately before severe damage occurs.

Our barges are on the lake 24/7 keeping an eye on customers’ docks after particularly heavy storms. The best part? By signing up, it completely eliminates the hassle of dock owners having to monitor it themselves and call us when it needs to move.  Plus you save $100 every time it needs to be moved!
