Southern California may not be the first place you think of for a snowy winter getaway. However, Lake Arrowhead has earned its reputation as “The Alps of Southern California” for a reason.

Located 5,174 feet above sea level, this scenic community has a lot to offer. It’s situated in the stunning San Bernardino Mountains, where Lake Arrowhead’s rich nature and wildlife draw people from all over the country. Unlike many other parts of California, Lake Arrowhead enjoys the full range of seasons, making it an ideal winter destination with plenty of winter wonderland activities.

Enjoy Lake Arrowhead’s Winter Activities

There’s never a dull moment in Lake Arrowhead, no matter which season you choose to visit. During the summer months, Lake Arrowhead is well known for hiking, camping, bicycling, water skiing, and boating. However, once the colder weather sets in, snow starts to cover the trees and docks around the lake. Thus, taking advantage of that lush snowfall is the thing to do.

Here are some highlights from Lake Arrowhead’s wide array of winter activities.

Ice Skating at Santa’s Village

Visiting the skating rink is a cherished winter tradition. Surprisingly, there were no skate rinks to be found in Lake Arrowhead as of a few years ago. Thanks to SkyPark in Santa’s Village, this is no longer the case.

Skypark’s Silver Bells Arena is a lovely skating pond where you can rent skates on-site. It opened back in 2016, to the delight of the Lake Arrowhead community. Give it a whirl on the ice and make beloved memories with your family this year at Silver Bells Arena.

SkyPark at Santa’s Village

In addition to ice skating, Skypark at Santa’s Village hosts many more winter activities. Santa’s Village is a historic gem of Lake Arrowhead. It’s changed names over the years and was even closed down for some time. Since reopening, it’s more popular than ever. With over 230 acres of land at its disposal, SkyPark is a treasure trove of alpine activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Some exciting activities include:

  • Mountain biking – If you enjoy mountain biking, SkyPark has well-groomed trails opened year-round for riders of all levels.
  • Rock climbing From the Frozen Falls Climbing Tower to the Magic Tree Bouldering Room, SkyPark offers many ways to get your climb on, both indoor and outdoor. If you do choose outdoor, be prepared for the chilly air.
  • Ziplining – There’s no better way than to enjoy the park’s expansive Northwood forest views than gliding over them via zipline.
  • Christmas-themed characters – Get into the holiday spirit with Santa, Mrs. Claus, Frosty the Snowman, and other wintertime favorites.
  • Santa’s Workshop Museum – Visit the museum to learn about the history of Santa’s Village. While you’re there, don’t forget to drop off a letter to Santa and meet his elves.

These are just a few of the activities offered at SkyPark. For more, explore their full list of attractions. In addition to outdoor activities, you can enjoy a nice drink at the pub or a cozy meal at one of their on-site restaurants.

Established in 1924, this resort is one of the few that’s still family-owned and operated. Best of all, this snowy haven is located just 15 miles southeast from the heart of Lake Arrowhead.

Snow Valley Mountain Resort offers:
